How Durable are they?
Question: From FB Group
How durable are they? Will they deform with 120+ Fahrenheit temps inside cars? Genuine question, not talking trash. Had a couple 3d printed bass knobs and accessories that melted just sitting in the car?
Response:
Very Fair question buddy. So, the thickness of the walls and design model application should determine the filament to use in the environment for 3D Printing. PLA is Great and even more tolerant to heat than Perspex over 160 deg. but at 3MM walls with structures of the same sort as in my other ports, you will see Fins or Buttresses to support walls. if you print PLA less than that it will deform at 80 Deg without infill or a solid 3mm print. So for the 10 inch I Print out I recommend PETG as a min. at 4mm walls with 90% infill similar to PVC ior you can order in ABS and ACA which have better properties than PVC. Example 10inch PETG is $110 to keep it economical or ABS jumps up to $170. As for the accessories melting could have just been walls were too thin matirials not right or model not design for environment when printing even PVC will melt at a 1 to 2-mm thick wall. Thus we have abs asa.. Besides, should anything like that happen full refunds, man. It is all part of learning the 3D Printing world Certainly we take things like that on board and learn from it. it does not mean we give up on 3D printing it means what to do right the next time. I have attached some pods I made for my Sprinter years ago in PETG with 3mm walls these are exposed to sun all day and still going well. all in the design model,
